Yesterday we celebrated the babies 1st birthday. It seems like just yesterday I was longing for the opportunity to have children. Now, not only do I have two amazing babies, but they are a year old!!!
I remember, March 26th 2008 so vividly! I woke up in the morning, did my normal routine (bed rest routine was get up, go to the bathroom, fill up my water bottle, go back to bed, and do contraction and blood pressure monitoring ). Around 10am, I received a phone call from the nurse department saying I needed to redo my contraction monitoring because I had 10 contractions in one hour. I said, it was accurate I felt them! Then they asked about my blood pressure. I wearily told them it was 154/113. They told me to retest immediately with them on the phone. I then reported I had already checked it 3 times and it was all the same. About 5 minutes later, I got a call from my doctors office telling me to head off to the hospital. I called Justin and told him the news. Thinking about the information from the last ultrasound, Justin took the rest of the day off of work, came home and took me and my bag to the hospital. Once we were at the hospital, I was not allowed to eat or drink until they decided what we were going to do. Doctor after doctor after doctor came in and asked me the same questions. By 6pm the last doctor announced we would not be having the babies tonight. Hence, I demanded Justin to run over to Sonic and get me a huge Ice Tea and some tator tots!! After he left, the doctor returned and seemed very upset, spouting out “You didn’t tell me one of the babies was an IGR baby!!! Dr. Schwartz will be here in 5minutes to deliver the babies! Why didn’t you notify me of this??” Oh man, did I want to shout “CAN’T YOU READ MY CHART??? I TOLD EVERYONE AND NO ONE CARED!!!” However, I was more overwhelmed about the fact, I would not be getting my tea and tots!
10:33pm Alexis Rose was born!
4lbs 11oz!
10:35pm After much laughter, pulling and tugging, Jeremiah Brian was born!
3lbs 4oz
I heard Jeremiah cry first, shortly after I heard Alexis cry… music to my ears!
I was lucky enough to get to see Jeremiah and give him kisses. But I had to wait until the next day to see Alexis. Above are my first moments with the babies. Justin, my parents, brother & sister were able to see them in the NICU.
Justin and I were so very blessed to have 2 very early, yet very healthy babies born. Jeremiah, the growth restricted baby was the delight of the hospital. Doctors were amazed at how the little guy was so strong. His doctor said “This baby isn’t premature, he’s just little!” The babies were 7weeks premature, but because of the grace of God they were born as healthy as a full term baby. Actually, if we would have waited much longer, Jeremiah may not have survived inside of me. His cord was too small and he had stopped growing. Nurse after nurse would ask us “what did you do right” or say “I wish all the babies did this good” We proudly gave all the Glory to God! All things are possible for those who believe… We had faith that someday we would be blessed with children, and God provided… Thank you Jesus for OUR gifts and we celebrate this Birthday with gratefulness and thanksgiving!
pictures throughout this year
Because this is such a huge blessing, to us we wanted to share it with everyone. We invited over 50 people to the party. And made tons of food. Only about 20 people showed up… so now we have lots of left-over's. But, it was a great day and I look forward to this next year.
There were so many photos that we took! It was hard to choose just a couple to put on here. I may post more later… especially on wordless Wednesday's!
